Ogeechee Circuit Mental Health / Drug Court
It is the goal of the Ogeechee Circuit Mental Health / Drug Court to impact positively persons with mental illness and/or addictions by facilitating stabilization and promoting self-sufficiency through a combined effort of the Court and community resources.
It is our goal, with this blended effort, to see reduced recidivism, which will make for safer communities, and to assist participants in becoming independent, self-sufficient contributors to the welfare of our communities.
The Ogeechee Circuit Mental Health / Drug Court serves Bulloch, Effingham, Jenkins and Screven counties. The Courts provide individuals with an opportunity to pursue treatment for their mental health needs and/or addiction(s) while productively addressing legal issues. The Mental Health Court was implemented in September 2013 in Bulloch County. July 2018 Mental Health Court and Drug Court expanded Circuit Wide. Both courts are under the direction of Judge Michael T. Muldrew, in partnership with the District Attorney, Public Defender, Probation, Sheriff’s Office, and treatment providers.
Eligibility
Mental Health Court Eligibility Requirements
- Axis I Diagnosis (the mental illness diagnosis)
- Adults age eighteen (18) or older
- Pending Criminal Charge(s) under the jurisdiction of the Ogeechee Circuit
- Willing to participate in the program for a minimum of 24 months
- Offenders currently in the probation revocation process
- Must reside in the Ogeechee Circuit, Bulloch, Effingham, Screven or Jenkins County.
Drug Court Eligibility Requirements
- Drugs and/or Alcohol addiction
- Adults age eighteen (18) or older
- Pending Felony Criminal Charge(s) under the jurisdiction of the Ogeechee Circuit
- Willing to participate in the program for a minimum of 24 months
- Offenders currently in the probation revocation process
- Must reside in the Ogeechee Circuit, Bulloch, Effingham, Screven or Jenkins County.
Individuals NOT Eligible
- Current charges or previous convictions of Murder, Armed Robbery, Rape, Aggravated Sodomy, Aggravated Sexual Battery, Aggravated Child Molestation, or Child Molestation
- Pending Felony Charges in a county other than Bulloch, Effingham, Screven, or Jenkins county
- Pending trafficking or distribution charges
- Current or previous charge for violent crime(s)
- Illegal alien status
