Jury Service - A Vital Function Of Democracy
Jury service is one of the highest duties of citizenship. It will give you an opportunity to learn about our system of justice and to see your courts operate. While it may require some adjustment of your normal schedule and routine to serve as a juror, we hope that any inconvenience will be minimal.
Attire
Please use good judgment and report properly dressed. Shorts, miniskirts & tee shirts are inappropriate attire. We cannot be responsible for personal belongings and suggest that you do not bring expensive articles with you.
NOTE: Put your Juror Number on correspondence & a telephone number where you can be contacted during the day.
COMPENSATION
Juror pay is $25.00 per day. Checks are mailed following completion of all trials for the month.
POSTPONEMENTS/EXCUSALS
Requests for a one time Postponement/Deferral must be submitted in writing for review, to Jason Bragg, Effingham County Clerk of Superior Court, 700 North Pine Street, Springfield, GA 31329. Your request must be received no less than 7 days prior to the starting date of your service. WRITTEN VERIFICATION by a physician MUST be submitted with any request for postponement or excusal because of a medical problem. No excuses on morning of reporting, unless for an emergency.
IF YOU ARE NOT AN EFFINGHAM COUNTY RESIDENT, please submit proof of your new address, a copy of Driver’s License or Voter’s Card, and you will not need to report for jury duty.
